Bacterial Overgrowth of the Small Intestine

This is a simple non invasive test which detects bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. This is a common condition which often underlies symptoms of maldigestion and malabsorption and causes unpleasant symptoms such as bloating, painful wind, diahorrhea, bowel irregularity and abdominal pain.

Six fasting breath samples are taken over a 2 hour period and are analysed to examine total levels of hydrogen, methane and hydrogen plus methane.
